This coffee is sourced from Lulo Coffee, a company founded by Robel Kidane, who
possesses extensive experience in coffee processing. Robel's family has been rooted
in Dilla, Ethiopia, a significant coffee trading hub situated near renowned coffee
regions such as Sidama, Gedeo (Yirgacheffe), and Guji. Growing up in this area, Robel
cultivated a deep passion for coffee, which inspired him to establish Lulo Coffee.
Lulo Coffee's export office and Lulo Lab are located in Addis Ababa, where they focus
on delivering high-quality coffee from the East African Rift Valley to the global
market. The coffee is sourced from farms across various regions, with each bean
embodying the collaborative effort and vision shared between Robel and the local
farmers.
Lulo Coffee distinguishes itself through its "Lulo Promise" program, which fosters
strong partnerships with farms to ensure market access, transparent pricing, and
complete traceability. This model guarantees premium-quality coffee while ensuring
that farmers receive up to 88% of the value, thereby promoting sustainability and fair
trade. Each cup of coffee narrates the story of the land and the farmers' dedication,
reflecting Lulo Coffee's unwavering commitment to quality and equity.
Lulo Coffee is dedicated to organic farming and sustainability, refraining from the use
of chemical fertilizers, pesticides, or herbicides on all its farms. Instead, they utilize
natural compost to enrich the soil, thereby protecting the environment while
enhancing the quality of their coffee. Grown at elevations above 1,800 meters in
shaded, garden-style fields, these beans develop the signature sweetness, fruitybrightness, and floral notes characteristic of Yirgacheffe coffee.
Lulo Coffee promotes biodiversity and regenerative farming by planting native and
faux banana trees among coffee crops to retain soil moisture and sustain the water
supply. They also enhance wastewater management to minimize environmental
impact and protect ecosystems—ensuring high-quality coffee while caring for the
land and the community
